Located on the rugged coastline of 49 Black Sand Beach, the home was a response to several site constraints such as the archeological zone, ancient coastline trails and a narrowing property toward the ocean. Influenced by the client’s passion for Japanese architecture and extensive modern art collection, the folded roof forms bring light into the home and create dynamic interior spaces.
The project was awarded the Honolulu AIA Unbuilt Design Award in 2007.
